So I thought I may as well start a thread on my new toy following my welcome post!

She's a normal 197 with Climate Control, Cruise Control, Cornering Lights, Xenons, and the Cabasse Audio setup (if I knew the problems with upgrading I really would have avoided this..). Just ticked over to 86k and it's only done roughly 10/11k in the last 18 months!

Bodywork needs a little work and has been quoted, alloys are getting refurbed and are going black I reckon, Brembos are changing colour too..[emoji849] red or yellow..decisions..

Going in for a service on Thursday, then it's off to GRGB for the 3rd gear synchro and a LUK clutch kit.

I've also noticed (and smelt) the catalytic converter...seems to be on the way out, so I'm thinking along the lines of a decat for now, followed by a mani change and either a Scorpion or Milltek..opinions would be appreciated!

Overall, it's a nice car that's a little rough round the edges, but I got it relatively cheap and I'm happy! I'd love to have it up to scratch for a couple of events later on in the year..

Only a couple of pictures for now, before an after a quick bodywork wash. Decided I'm going to wait until the wheels and bodywork are complete before I give it a good polish and wax.

Looks a tidy example. They look good in UR:grinning:

Keep us posted on how you get on at GRGB please. I'm keen to get my box overhauled later this year.

Why the LUK clutch over a Renault one? (Just wondering)

Only reason is what a few people have told me! I'm not 100% set but that's what I'm thinking.

Is the Renault one decent enough for future mapping etc? I'm not going silly but mani and exhaust along with probably a Ktec induction kit..

Big things happened to far - and bigger things planned. Looks lovely too ! In what is still possibly my favourite colour......

Good luck with the service and gear synchro's.

ENJOY

Cheers mate! Still drooling over yours...will never ever come a fraction close to how clean that is...!

Was going to ask you actually, how are you finding the Scorpion? Milltek seems a little quiet and boring for my liking from what I've listened to.

Scorpion (Resonated) with manifold is ENOUGH for these ears. Great sounds and presence without actually being ASBO ! Drones a little at 70....but generally quiet'ish down the rev range - whilst still having a nice tone.

Cheers on the comments - i think it looks even better in the video i've just put up in my thread.

Ooh..best have a little watch of that in a minute...

Where did you get your Scorpion from? I'm 100% sure on resonated (don't fancy annoying the neighbours too much at 5am) but I'm struggling to find one online without looking on eBay (roughly £450/475). Not many dealers round my area either..plus looking at £750+ for a decat and custom exhaust so if I can save a little buying a Scorpion I will!

There's no such thing as a 'normal' 197 - they're all special  and you have a good one there, and it sounds like it'll be well looked after in your ownership.

I have a resonated Scorpion as well, and I love it. Nice improvement over the OEM note, but definitely not OTT. Civilised when you need it to be, but sounds lovely when you go through the revs. I bought mine second-hand, so can't comment on all the different places to buy them from. But I do know Larkspeed have them listed on their site, their prices though are similar to the ebay ones...

Have you tried Andy at Engine Dynamics ? Members here get a discount with him.

The 197/200 Facebook group also get a 10% discount on Scorpion exhausts i think......

Cheers guys, so looking at £535 on Larkspeed for exhaust and decat, just about to message Andy to see if he can match it! Would rather use somebody associated with here definitely..Braintree is a bit far for getting it mapped...however if the price is right I may get him to fit the whole lot and map it same day..would make sense!

lovely looking car and its great that its more or less standard..plenty of room for mods...

Never heard of Renault clutches having trouble as a rule. Maybe LUK is cheaper?
I have a resonated scorpion with toyo manifold and ktec induction kit. All mapped out by Andy like Shuv. Sounds like a race car mate. Absolutely brilliant.

That's what I like to hear...! Just treated myself to a Scorpion decat, blasted up to work a minute ago and it smells awful..hurry up Mr Courier!

Will look into clutches a bit more then before I go down to get it done.

Sure i've read on some of the Meg Conversion threads; the standard clutches are good for 300lb-ft (?)

Even if they arent. The extra (Very little) power and torque from an exhaust, filter, remap etc isnt going to trouble or test a standard clutch.

The hassle / cost of removing the gearbox etc - just doesn't warrant using a 'cheap' clutch IMO. Go original would be my advice.

I've a ktec non res system and decat, the car has been mapped to suit it and the ktec induction kit, have to say it runs well but it is loud, on the motorway I find it unbearable at normal speed and have to sit at 80 at which it's not to bad at all! It crackles and pops like mad which is a giggle but I'd really like to have a run in one with a std zorst just to see, I'd prob do resonated if I was getting one tbh.

Nice one on treating yourself to the Scorpion! Did you get it from Larkspeed in the end? Although I will happily recommend site traders over any other retailer, I have a lot of praise for Larkspeed. They're a small, Leeds-based company and have a good reputation. My brother worked for them some years ago and they're a good bunch of people.

I've bought the decat pipe from AmD, simply because I've saved £10 on postage! Larkspeed is in the bookmarks bar for the cat back exhaust...just going to get it through the service and the gearbox work then I'll order it. I think some Powerflex goodies may be in order from Larkspeed too..

Mine pops and bangs a little, especially going from 1st into 2nd! Will be interesting to see the difference a decat will make on it's own. Defo set on resonated from what I've read over the last few weeks.

I do love delivery day! Shiny new Scorpion decat arrived in the post, I also managed to pick up a very nice second hand Ktec induction kit from Kazumz on here!

Now I have decisions to make. Andy at Engine Dynamics has given me what I think is an extremely reasonable price to supply a cat back exhaust, fit the parts I have and remap it!

Do I save myself the hassle of a massive flat spot driving all the way down to him by just paying that little extra to have it all fitted and dynoed at the same time?

Service and inspection day tomorrow, slightly nervous now!!
