Sold the Meglio Cup Car... Now project 205...

So Sunday I spent a bit of time preparing the Clio for this Friday!

First off my friend and I went to a meet in the cars, his is an MX-5 turbo with around 220 bhp.

After comparing the two I was quite suprised they are very similar in performance, if anything the Clio was a little faster! So the work and weight loss has paid off a little.. Hard to say as I haven't weighed it but I estimate somewhere under 1200kg with 2 passangers!

As for setup:

I redone the geo, so here is the settings I am trying:

***********old:

Front

-2.7 Camber
+1.5mm toe out per wheel

Rear

-1.8 Camber
+4 mm toe out per wheel

************new:

Front

-2.7 Camber
+1.5mm toe out per wheel

Rear

-2.3 Camber
+2.6mm toe out per wheel

Looks so good mate. Take the car down to your local weigh bridge if you want an actual weight, I reckon it's a lot lighter than you think.

Yea guesstimated from the mx5 kerb weight +200 kg / its bhp multiplied by my bhp as they were quite matched! Rough as tits way to do it but the weight it gave was 1173 which seems realistic tbh! So would be about 1050 without fuel and passengers haha. Yea I need to pop down and check it out! I think its definitely the Clio is much lighter than I thought, MX-5 is a quick enough wee car!

SO buzzing now! Cant wait to go home and give it a check over and dust it off! I've only had time to clean the wheels since finishing it on sunday

Just an update from the last track day, car went really well. Pretty good for it's first time out, just a couple of small handling issues to sort.

Clutch died at 3.00, so it went home on a recovery truck lol.

While it's apart I'm addressing issues, small oil leak from missing bolt in side plate and cracked exhaust manifold at the head.

I am also fitting some nice engine mounts.

To address handling I am fitting some heavier rear springs, to 130n/mm on rear & I am also collecting the racer geo kit, ee brackets and bump steer I have now.

Love this build, good to see it done properly! Shame about the clutch but good you had fun while it lasted.

Bugger about the clutch and manifold mate, looks like you're seizing the opportunity to make it better though. Such a great build, love checking this thread out, shots on track look fantastic too.

Cheers mate, yea only small issues though. It's probably an old injury if I'm honest, just seen that there was signs of a small blow! It's coming on okay, gone more serious than I intended to I guess just the norm haha.

Cup racer kit is in progress!

1) Adds 2.5 degrees to the camber, so will see over 5 degrees max (with camber bushes) and minimum around 2.5-3 with bushes adjusted the opposite way.

2) Increases track width with no spacers

3) Roll centre corrected

4) Bump steer corrected with rack shims and TRE adaptor

5) Shafts should be ready in the next few weeks. Need it all ready to go for blyton [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51]

So a busy and expensive Clio month.. Should transform the feel of the car [emoji28].

Follow the racer/R3 bits thread for detailed info

So I wanted to raise up the shifter.

I found my self swinging a hand off too far to get gears. The CAE is way outta my budget for something when it's mostly aesthetics you are paying for (beautifully cnc machined goodness)

So..

Make a small hole then a 32mm one beside it, this is to allow you to slide the ends through with the cable already through as below..
