06 nimbus 197 daily track toy

i love it when a plan comes together... Monday is my birthday and i have just swapped my day off which was meant to be tomorrow for Monday so looks like i have a cage fitting day ahead of me providing it does come on Friday.

FCS tickets booked along with a open pit track time i have gone for the cheaper option of 2.5 hours but am looking forward to it

Got a little glass wiper remover fitted yesterday along with one side of rear door cards stripped ready for the cage

I wasn't to happy with the bung as it is meant to be glossy and it's got a mat finish it didn't fit properly so I had to file it down but it's in now so it will stay there and I got it for half price so it will do.

Spent the evening after work trying to sort out the rear seat belt pretensioner it was all going well one at a time resistors where working and I found the trick IMAG2728.jpg
Removing the white tabs.. so carried on and done the last two but didn't check as going along then started it up after and lights on so need to go at it all again hopefully it will be done tonight..

Today was the day and I had a bloody good bash at it on my own started by putting it together outside the car however that was a quick process and I wish I had done it properly as I quickly learnt I didn't have half the bolts I needed and only had 2 nuts however I used the nuts I had around the garage and set to work I managed to get one side in start the drilling on the other side only thing is I had run out of bolts and nuts so am now having to wait until they all come when I do I will replace all the nuts and bolts I have used as temporary to get it all bolted down.

So for now this is how it will stay seats not bolted down and not driving

Spoke to mark fish and safety device today who where both really helpful and I should have a full set of bolts tomorrow so over the weekend I can continue

Hard work done - just a bit of swapping over to do. Which will be most pleasant as i'm sure you've grafted today !

Your momentum on your car is non-stop. Full on indeed !

I'm no track-fiend.....but i imagine the cage must stiffen everything up hugely ?

It did with my old one it was quite a lot.. with my old one when I used to Jack it up when I opened the door and close it again i felt like it had dropped an inch same practice again with the cage fitted one side jacked up and doors close as it was on the floor ..

and yeah I didn't think it would all happen so quick but I am sure glad it is bring on track season

It's 20mm higher due to the way the top mount sits but we'll see after tonight if not to get the "look" I'll have to get the splitter which I do wanna do eventually

What's the difference in design on the compbrake mounts? I've just put some on a set of b14's too and have struggled to get the front where it should be. At the moment I've got the b14's adjusted within the range specified by Bilstein (the measurement from collar to bolt centre) - but the front's springs are actually loose on droop, which I found odd given I'm within their measurements. You would have assumed their measurements at the lowest point would still keep a marginal pre-load on the spring.

Got me thinking maybe the topmounts are to blame? And possibly why I have a knock since fitting, could be the spring moving?

cheers
