2012 clio 3RS RB7 #166

new pads and rotors installed today. first time ever i replaced rotors myself. followed this (brilliant) tutorial ...

had to use a bit of force to get the old rotors off, but otherwise quite straightforward job. going to bed them in tomorrow morning. here's to hoping i won't smash it into a tree, due to the brakes falling off ... (the missus thinks i'm nuts, for doing this myself, btw.)

pads are ferodo DS1.11's and rotors are coated brembo HC's. curious as to how long and well the coating will last.

Good job doing it all yourself Peter. Bet it feels satisfying now !

Let us know after the bedding-in session tomorrow. Should be a great combination. Be interesting to see how the coating holds up i agree.

Have fun and be careful (At first at least)

Nice feeling doing it yourself Peter. Congrats.
If the DS1.11 are better pads than the DS2500 I run then you are in for some serious stopping power. Enjoy

cheers ben. i'm in two minds about using a race pad like the DS1.11 on a daily driver, tbh. ideally i'd have two sets, one for daily use and one set for when i track the clio. 'm just too lazy to swap pads all the time ...

i saw a video of this guy on here a long while back. immediately went over to YT and subscribed to his channel. could well have been a video you posted, so here's a belated 'thank you'.

Great little video, it's so easy isn't it??

yup. it was. made sure i had the right tools and took my time. easy.

ahh, the pleasures of having white wheels. this one is shot right after the bedding in procedure. looks very 'race car' ...

did a 'tracknight' at spa-francorchamps yesterday. a tracknight is an open pitlane trackday from 6 till 8 pm (so, not really 'night'). not a lot of participants (maybe 20-25 max), but quite a bit of serious kit present. a couple of GT4's, several 911's, trackspecced M3, M2, corvette, 3-series alpina ... i think the clio was the least powerful car there, together with a toyota GT86 and a lotus elise. oh, and one dreadfully slow porsche 924.

weather was fine (cool and a bit cloudy), had a lot of clear laps and everyone behaved sensibly. clio performed flawlessly and got home save.

first time using the ferodo DS1.11 pads. what a brilliant pad. together with (coated) brembo HC's and endless RF650 fluid, you could hammer them for six, seven laps in a row without losing brake performance. took me a while to get used to the stopping power though. this set up (together with the AD08R's) allowed me to lap spa faster then ever before. even managed to take eau rouge and the raidillion flat out for the first time, which is an absolute adrenaline rush!

sadly no 'on track' photo's or video's. this one's from before the action ...

yoko's were great, ben. they gave me plenty of confidence to drive up the hill without lifting. did suffer from understeer a couple of times, but i think that's more driver-related than tyre-related. the sidewalls on the front tyres look a bit rough right now and i did overheat them, so next time i'll go for four hard laps in stead of six or seven. unless i get carried away again ...

i'd love to get some decent camber on the front axle, but top mounts are a no-go for belgian MOT. even those purple powerflex camber adjustable bushes are not allowed. i don't think they'd notice the black powerflex ones, but not sure if they are doable on a daily.

had a 100 kilo passenger with me this time, so lap times obviously suffered. but we still had a great time and got home safe. first time i regretted not having a go pro (or similar). would have loved to show you how the clio hustled a 964 up the hill ... and then left us standing on the straight. :grinning:

Stunning photos Peter. Weather looks good

How much time per lap do you lose with extra 100kg?
