200: Water leak (passenger door)

Hi guys,

I have a leak which seems to be getting in the bottom of the passenger door.

I've seen a lot about door drains etc but I can't find any pictures to check all the drains I should be checking (just generally looking for holes that look blocked).

I've replaced the door sills (rubber at the front of the rear glass). Cleared the scuttle drains and cleaned the area.

Any guides/ pictures of where to check. also should i look into stripping the door panel and checking there as I've seen mentioned before. based on the attached picture, could it be a place to check or more drainage/rubber seal? You can see in the picture where its coming in, even a pit at the back owned of the door too

Thanks in advanced.

P.S. I've took it back to where I bought it 3 times to fix the leak and every time they said they have but they havent! time to take matters into my own hands.

I think you need to remove the door panel/cards - there is insulation that if torn can lead to leaking water.

Scuttle drains!

There's a guide in the how to, really easy to sort if it is that.

You will need to be a paid member though, well worth the £5!

Also heard about one lower down the back of the engine sometimes sticking shut or something? Lol.

Where do I pay to get the guides etc

If you've already cleaned the scuttle drains properly (removed everything down to bare metal) then I'd be removing the door cards and seals.

Any idea where to locate the door drain holes? Guessing they're simply the holes that run along the bottom of the door? lol

Also read somewhere that there are 3 drain holes that run along the underneath of the side skirt, can anyone confirm?

Going to hopefully check all options tonight (weather permitting)

Just got home and had a quick poke about there to try spot anything obvious.

I've attached a few picks to show the seal and where the water is sitting on the door and seal. also attached a video of watering the area and where the water runs but I can't see any obvious problems.... And of course the water won't go over seal like in my first post fs lol

Seems to be quite a common problem upon googling it. just very hard to diagnose it seems. Charles Hurst have had it back 3 separate times (over 5 days). And went out this morning and seen that water again!
So frustrating when you loved it for a few weeks then this starts, can't wait to get it solved so I can get stuck into properly cleaning and polishing etc!

your looking at the door frame seal along the bottom you need to look up the front edge up towards the dash and see how high the water can be traced. Still could be a badly fitted windscreen or the drains down the edge of it if Hurst's charged you anything and its still leaking ask for you money back I can see wind deflectors on the car they could be the problem with regards the seals around the door or wing mirror.

I had a look. with the door open and pouring water you can see it runs from the roof, into the rubbers at the top of the door frame, runs down the font onto the front side of the rubbers that run up the front of the door frame and down and back out the bottom over the skirts.

With the wind deflectors.. would the water be running inside the door behind the panel and out the bottom? Have to check it out

Going to have a crack at this today and will get some pics of everything to see if i'm missing anything.

going to strip the door panel off then start soaking it again and sit inside it to check for water coming in (which i couldn't get to happen yesterday). makes me think that @turkie172 may be onto something and it could be behind the panel. Im not sure now if its only happened since putting the wind deflectors on or if its coincidence.

Any other tip or pointers to look out for?
I'm going to go through the scuttle drains etc again as it wasn't me that cleared them so i want to do it myself..
cheers

@Roshi69 - I've experienced this exact problem too! (only on the drivers side.) Sadly none the wiser as to cause or a solution, as it is very intermittent... I cleaned the scuttle drains multiple times, refitted door seal and have never had wind deflectors fitted. Sometimes after heavy rain there would be no problem and others a huge flood  Traced leak and was definitely not coming in from windscreen or any sort of height. Will be interested to see how you get on, let me know if you manage to solve it!

Its an sbsolute nightmare. I'll be sure to take picks and hopefully find solution.

But exact same scenario. Its not consistent!

Hopefully I'll find a solution and be able to share it.
Out of curiosity did you take the door card off and water test? That's what I'm going to try after work here

@Roshi69 - No I havent tried that, makes sense though. Think you may be on to something, as it always appeared that the water was entering the cabin at the bottom via the door lip rather than from behind dash or headliner etc.

I've heard the clios have 'wet doors' but does that just mean that the water is designed to run along the sills and down and out?

Sounds stupid but water should not be entering inside the door surely, should it? Like in between the actual bodywork and the bit that the door card goes over, the actual in between the door?

By that I mean surely not in behind where I've highlighted in the picture?

Anyway. There is water getting into the door from the front right side of the window and dripping down. Does this with or without the wind deflectors (driver side has no issues).

I'm unsure is this is what's getting water actually into the car as all the holes at the bottom of the door are clear and they should be on the outside of the door seal, therefore not getting in.

I did notice however, when I sprayed the water on the window and sat in the car, some splashes from the dripping were getting through the speaker hole (obviously once its all put back together, the speaker covers the hole but maybe getting in there?

Also one of the plastic pop things that go into the door was broke, coincidently above where the water was getting in. Maybe with that not being intact it wasn't making a seal on that hole with the wee rubber bits that are attached to it? (I've swapped it with one from the top of the opposite side to see if it solves it)

Pictures showing the water dripping down behind the speaker. runs down the very edge of the window and drips down.
