Flacsi's Racing Red 197

Nice one Tamas, you keep saying you'd join us one year but you never do, tut tut way too much being spent on the car but not with the car!

Let's hope you manage this year it'd be awesome:smile:

Got your point @Yiannis197
This season I am spending only on maintenance: brake discs and pads, oil change, MOT, the only extra are the door cards for weight savings.
Not sure who spent a small fortune on coil-overs with external canister, last season

But the point is there: we spent a lot on our cars, rather than with the car. I had to realize last season that I am rarely driving my RS during weekends as the suspensions are so harsh, the clutch is so weak! To run it on tracks only is not enough, but expensive, I need to enjoy it more on mountain roads.

Therefore from this season I stop searching for tenth of seconds on track to beat my PB, because that makes you spend more and more of your hard earned cash.
I will go for track days but the goal is to enjoy! Honestly the biggest fun is when with friends of mine are closely following each other on track!

And try to join your alpine trip this year or if the dates are not fitting I will organize one with my friends, because the roads are amazing in Slovakia - High Tatras, Austrian Alps - these are all in driving distances. And I would recommend this to all of you guys!

cheers
Tamas

haha fair enough matey, small fortune on my setup but I still hit the Alps, B-roads and circuits every year so yes, no issues using my car everywhere:wink: And I've also got radio, aircon, interior, insulation etc so yes, I'm rolling in a daily:smile: Has to be mentioned, if I was about to chose between a car upgrade and a trip I know which one I'd chose:smile:

Joking aside, fighting with the stopwatch can lead you in dark places. Totally agree with you, you can spend so much and before you realise the car can't be used on the roads any more and this great element of our car is lost. Let's face it, if I wanted a track only car that wouldn't be a FWD hatch..Track days is a day of leisure, go out, have a blast and use the car to the maximum of your skills, something you can't do on the road. Stopwatches are for racing, I never used one:smile:

Now, sort your summer out my friend and come and join us. Around 10 Lotuses this year and me, 25 Aug-2 Sept. And it's gonna be massive!

This all over, especially the last part!
Nice as Clio's are, they make sense as a dual purpose car - for which they are hard to beat at the £'s. Track only, well for me even a mk3 2.0 sport mx5 would make a far better track choice than a Clio at around similar budget to most 197's etc. Simple setup of coilovers, light seats and the mzr/duratec is pretty easy to tune too

agree with both of you! a used mx5 - light, smaller wheels and tires and brake pads are way cheaper - or a used gt86 - similar weight and sizes, but lower center of gravity - is on my list, whenever I will be brave enough to sell my little one.

But lets enjoy what we have in hand, my first ride of the season was a blast

Fantastic photos Tamas! Especially like the 2nd one.

Red car with white wheels always looks amazing.

Think it just adds a bit of drama to the shots mate!

I'm sure it certainly added drama to the drive!

I've never seen such a work of art born out on a pair of brake pads ! The quality is obvious from here......

Look forward to hearing all about the results

"Strange" finish on the Aluminium.....or is that just the light / reflections or even moisture ?

Its neither Satin / Brushed or polished......

In principle i'm with the idea though  Would they look better painted Black perhaps ?

Not my cup of tea mate and to be honest I really doubt you'll see any improvement on your lap times with this. How much weight did you save?

Most importantly, how do you find the RC6s?
