#93 Albi Blue in West Midlands

Hi all,

I have introduced myself in the new members area a short time ago.

I bought it a couple weeks ago from my mate, but been on holiday and had to sell my old car, so it is now my daily, I do ~75miles a day to work, I am enjoying it so far (apart from Cruise Control problems I mentioned in my other thread).

So far I have broke the centre vent (stupid vent phone holder) but I bought a new one and fitted it, was a doddle.

I also noticed a few damaged cracks on the rear drivers arch liner, so I have a new one to fit (when it isn't so cold outside lol).

Next is to fix the cruise control when I work out what the hell is going on there :worried:

Also it seems to be missing the clips for the drivers mat (that sits on the carpet, that the mat then attaches to), are these available separately?

Only real pic I have of it myself:

Forgot to mention, it is standard bar a few mods:
* Toyosport manifold
* Milltek Resonated cat-back
* Powerflex dogbone and upper torque mount

Credit to Ant for the maintenance of this, he's changed a lot of things on it in his ownership :smile:

Love the color my favourite very nice

Thanks mate, many people on this forum like the Albi Blue, I have to also (biasedly) agree :smiley:

I bought these, the early 197 didn't come with the mat hooks.

http://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/product/renault-carpet-mat-clip-set/

You can buy the hooks seperate but they are £4 each so you are better buying this kit. Very easy to fit.

Welcome to the F1 Team club.

Spot on, thanks again mate, you've been so helpful (in here and the other thread) thanks :smiley:

Thanks Pav :smiley:

So #93 might well be dead!
I got rear ended on the motorway this morning, I will get some pics up, it's not a nice sight, I'm not gonna lie, I'm deeply saddened as I was falling in love with the car!
Was looking at Laguna Silverstone wheels to get for some track rubber and get back on track!

Rear floor is creased, so I think it'll be written off :worried:

So sorry to hear about this, that is rotten luck so soon after buying it :worried: More importantly, I hope you and any passengers are all ok??

How did the accident happen, was it some clown who didn't see the queue of traffic in front?!

Thanks for all the kind replies, I really appreciate it.

So I was on the M40 going to work in the third lane moving with traffic (so doing ~60mph) but the junction ahead is notorious for people coming straight out into the third lane to avoid getting stuck behind people getting off at the next junction.

So the cars infront slam on, that's fine I do the same and stop near zero mph, I am looking behind now seeing a Renault Trafic with no way in hell that it will stop in time, so I brace and keep foot on brake (stop myself from getting sandwiched).
He hits me with some force (maybe travelling like ~30mph, hard to judge), I get shunted forward with the force, but luckily I kept my foot in and guy infront edges forward and I miss him. Car will not start now (I assume a cut off of some sort), so we push my car as close to the central reservation waiting for police (to allow traffic past).

Highways agency turn up and block the road so I can be pushed to the hard shoulder, where I waited in -3 degrees for 1.5hours for insurance recovery to turn up.

So as for damage:
* Bumper
* Boot
* Diffuser
* Boot floor is creased
* Rear lights got pinched in from impact on boot (so cracked lights and maybe c-pillar damage?)
* Airbag related something (I assume the cutoff is inbuilt into the module?)

Here's a few pics, I have covered the plate only as I don't want to cause any problems with insurance etc, don't want to cause any insurance problems (probably being paranoid lol).

Luckily just me in my car, and just him in his.
I hate all this whiplash stuff, as I think "MTFU" normally, but now being on the end of it, it is horrendous pain, I cannot look left or right today and a monstrous headache that will not go away!
Friends are saying definitely claim, but I feel like too many people take the piss! I don't know what to do, I will speak to my doctor tonight after work.

Yes Locke, already had an assessor call me and offer me a lowball figure, then when I pointed out it is an F1, he then "oh right, so you want more?"
I was like "well it is simple as this, I just want enough money to get me an F1 spec, in same condition as mine, money is irrelevant, if you can find me a car in the same spec etc, that would sort this problem out"

He got the message, so is going away to discuss it.

Going to be a long road to get another, I am properly gutted, as I took it on a blat around country lanes on Friday and I had so much fun, like loads of fun, enjoyed the car so much!!! :worried:

I am looking for another one, so hopefully I will be sticking around, but I am going to take my time to find the right one, would love another F1, but a quick look shows there aren't many that are similar spec or condition to my old one, fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear about this mate. Don't get disheartened by this bit of bad luck!
Don't give in to the insurance company till your happy with the figure either, I've been keeping my eye out the prices of the F1's recently as I might swap mine at some point next year and they seem to be quite high at the moment!

Thanks for the update and very glad to hear that you were uninjured. Those photos really make me wince, you must be so incredibly gutted, especially after you'd had such a good time with it recently :worried: I really do hope that you can get another F1 in the spec you like - fingers crossed for you.

Onto the subject of the whiplash/personal injury claim... I do see your point in that too many people tend to make bogus claims for this, which is what wrecks premiums for us. There are too many shysters in the world.

However..
1. You are in actual pain and therefore you are injured as a result of someone else's carelessness - why shouldn't you be recompensed for your suffering?
2. You pay your insurance premiums, which covers you for this eventuality. You're genuinely entitled to make this claim.

Good luck with it all and I sincerely hope you can get it all sorted.

So sorry to hear this buddy.

And having recently gone through it - it can be the fight after to get a decent payout, finding another car, battling with insurance companies and getting the other driver to officially own-up etc etc.

Stay strong, Fight hard !

im sure you will find another good example so theres something to look forward to...
regarding the whiplash claim..i was in a similar situation not long ago..was patiently waiting for green light when i saw this SUV in my rear mirror closing up very quickly..slammed on the brakes and waited for the impact..the guy hit me doing maybe 15mph..
i never claimed..maybe i should have but thats why i invested into my front and rear dash cam so i have a proof if anything like this happens again..

hope you are ok and will find another 197 soon to make you happy again

You need to make a claim so that the idiot who hit you has his insurance premium raised, it's the only way he will learn otherwise next time could be a little kids life he takes, not your rear end. I know that sounds dickish but its the truth, you will get your car repaired and you will also get a couple of grand for personal injury, and trust me you deserve it, there isn't a day that goes by since i was rear ended that I dont get panicked when people are tail gating me.

Ok mate first thing first start looking at cars in the same condition as yours pre accident. Copy and save as many as you can and this is the average price you want for your car. Remember this is not your fault, do you have legal cover included in your cover? If not get a no win no fee lawyer to fight your case. Tell them up front how much you want for your car and you won't settle for less. You want a courtesy car in the meantime and if you are any pain at all get yourself to a doctor.

Thanks Matt, yeah i'm not gonna give up on it, yeah exactly, I won't accept anything until I have enough to cover the costs of another F1.

Thanks Jimmy, yeah it's the first time in years i've fell for a car (as it does everything for me, comfy, creature comforts, semi-decent MPG (well better than my BMW 740iL haha), good looking and so much fun!)

What you said is exactly what others have said, I think I am also leaning towards it, as I am not getting better yet, woke up today even sorer, I will contact Insurance as they offered a check-up.

So sorry to hear this buddy.

Thanks mate, yeah it is going to be a lot of back and forth, they already tried to give me normal Clio 197 prices when I got a call yesterday, I quickly told him it's an F1 and in Albi Blue, he said oh right and will get back to me.

Thanks Pav, in my post with the pictures, the third paragraph explains. It was more reaction times / his extra mass being a van.
Yeah I do want to find another one, but not going to rush into it, as I want the right one again.

Thanks mate, a bit extreme, but I totally understand your reasoning behind what you wrote (as each situation is different).
I cannot bad mouth the third party, as he wasn't a d**k, he has admitted liability, phoned insurance and done it, he was like mid-40's, he was shook up and checking on me etc, so I cannot fault him in that sense, as the last thing I want is liability arguments when my neck kills and a thumping headache!

Thanks mate, yep i've started looking for ones in same colour (hard, which can play in my favour and against me), condition and maintenance.
Yes I have legal cover and already claiming loss of earnings for Monday and halfday Tuesday (as they couldn't get a courtesy car quick enough), but also now the neck pain too.
I have now got a courtesy car, so that is good.

Thank you all for all the kind words, I really appreciate it :smile:

That's good that he was decent but even if he wasn't, 100% of rear end RTC are blamed on the person hitting you, even if you braked suddenly to avoid a cat the persons behind you need to be in control of their vehicles and have enough space to stop safely, this is why the rear end scammers buy old cars and go about slamming brakes on, 4 passengers then claim 2-3k each and so it goes on and on. You don't have to worry about liability but that said it dont matter how nice that guy was, the insurance companies will then fight over it and often the people in the wrong will change their minds when they leave the scene.

Oh totally agree, i'm not defending him and saying it's fine to rear end me, but accidents do happen, he could have been an arse and made it worse.
His insurance already rang and claimed liability.
Yes agreed about the bogus claims, why I didn't want to act like one of those people, why I was like "shall I claim or not?"
