200T Problems

Thought it would be useful to have a thread covering any problems people have experienced with ownership. Not a whinge fest, just useful info for owners, what the issue was and how it was fixed.

My only issue so far is my passenger door will not lock with the central locking, need to use the key in the keycard. Need a trip to the dealer to fix I think.

Cheers .....

Simon.

To be honest you wouldn't want to know all the faults that's been repaired on my 200t
as most of you would like to go to bed tonight
lol

Same with mine took Evans Halshaw ten months to find the noise
to be honest they never found it , I had to take it to another garage who Sussed out the problem in five minutes

My local dealer couldn't diagnose it, I took it to another dealer who found the problem right away...

I know I've read enough of your posts to think yours was a 'Friday' car! For then those issues to be compounded by utterly shocking service!

It would be useful to highlight the dealers that give good service to avoid some of the pain.

lol mine defo a Friday car
latest one is the dash was telling me the key card battery was flat
I changed the battery in fob and I even used the other key card and the message wouldn't go away and after three days I had to eventually disconnect the car battery and it reset after that
What I will say is that Evans Halshaw my supplying dealer in Edinburgh is rubbish and the good dealer is Renault Grangemouth I've had nothing but top quality service from Grangemouth Renault

Only issue i have had with mine is that when i start the car you can hear what seems to be a fan behind the dash starting up. Sounds as if it unbalanced. Noticed it in the wife Clio as well

1) A couple of times when I've gone to switch the wipers on, nothing happened. Had to switch engine off and lock / unlock the doors and then fine. Would prefer just a plain simple intermittent wipe myself (less to go wrong).
Some times they work fine in auto, then it will be peeing down and they will decide to have a rest (IE. stop) then the next minute they seem to think "God it is really raining" and go into orgasm mode (IE. full speed).
I've had auto wipers before in a couple of other cars and they were pants to.

2) If I mute the radio and then switch the engine off, it sometimes seems to get confused and when I start the engine again, while the radio is still muted, I can't un-mute it (IE. get any sound). Again engine off and lock/unlock car.

3) Like shocker, the car is telling me the battery in the key fob is getting low. Odd as the car is only 18 months old ... can't remember the last time I've ever had to change one in a car (though first to admit that I don't usually keep cars that long). Even looking at the book, it took me a while to work out how to get the back off. I thought from the diagram it "slid off". But it doesn't. It flips upwards after a fair amount of force applied. Thought I was going to break it!
Shocker... the handbook says to "press a key on the remote 4 times" after replacing the battery and next time the engine starts, message should be gone.
I'll see tomorrow is this is true.

4) Lost all even numbered gears (and check auto gearbox warning message came up). Just went to pull away after being parked up. Again sorted by engine off, lock/unlock doors. Only happened the once thank God.
Garage said "it's a known problem". O'yes... funny how no one else seemed to have heard of it (GOOGLE turned up one other ... not a Clio though).
They said they had applied some updated gear box map. But for all I know, they could have just left it sat on the diagnostic machine to make it look like they had been doing something (shock horror), or maybe just re-flashed the current gear box map over top of what was already there (which was the latest map anyway ... I checked this).

Other than the above. 17k+ trouble free miles.

My wipers work okay, just the rain sensor isn't very good. How do you mute the sound, using the fingertip controller on the right of the steering column?

Pinned this thread!

latest one for me is RS monitor not working, showing the car as parked when I'm driving so I can't load any telemetry! Also have a suspension related noise when I've not drove the car for a while, sounds a bit crashy when going over a bump! It's into Renault for a service and this sorted on the 25th!

Hi Chris,

I'm no where near mechanically educated but I was having the same issue with the "crash" sounds when going over bumps. I had Front Bushes replaced. Apparently it was a common thing on the Mk4s.

Sorry to here your monitor isn't working too? Could that have anything to do with R-Link update?

When you say crash, is like a scraping noise? I've noticed mine making a noise occasionally when going over speed bumps but there's nothing hanging down that could scrape..

I'd describe it as a crunching when over speed bumps then I had them look it over. It was under warranty so they replaced and no issues since.
