Gordan the Gordini

Hello Gents, I'm a regular browser of both Clio Sport and now this website. I enjoy them both! Two different crowds which is excellent for finding out about things for your car.

Here is my dotted history with Clio's. It's the only car model I've ever owned and I can't see that changing:

Clio Mark 2 - LT54WZH (Write off) - Still used on the roads today! Don't know if the owner is aware of the structural damage though?

223365_10200188090377706_1513468481_n.jpg

This was my first ever car and I had it for 6 months! Total animal. For a 1.2 it sure could move. The accident was in my favor as the other party admitted liability for running a red light.

Clio 3 - CA09UPV

Car was totally useless, it couldn't shift and was like a slug coming off a busy roundabout. So much so, I found it dangerous to drive in rush hour; it just simply would not move to the point where you'd have to launch it across a roundabout when you've seen a space. 1.1 16v

Clio 3 TCE - CE11YUA - My first modified car (by myself)

This car, to put it bluntly made up the loss of speed problem that the Clio 3 16v had. I had the following performed on the car:

  • [*=center]Longlife Catback
    [*=center]2.0l Injectors
    [*=center]NGK Platinum Plugs
    [*=center]Pipercross Panel Filter
    [*=center]Forge 007 DV
    [*=center]KTEC Remap @ 130BHP (120BHP if you include the dyno's inaccuracy) running 155 FT/LB Torque.

Then this happened:

Some mong-child decided to break in to the car and steal my university laptop while I was up a friends house! My own fault. But damn...

To put it bluntly again, the car was absolutely amazing... For 4,000 miles. The map broke, it wouldn't go over 4.5K RPM. I never got this fixed, instead I purchased a K03s in hopes of running higher boost. Then, it happened... I saw the Clio RS Gordini while down Renault Swansea and totally fell in love. The money I saved for the turbo fitting I found was best put to use in a more reliable situation with an already bigger engine - so I bought it!

10517947_10203524376222767_5096050388816436150_n.jpg

Absolutely immaculate.

So, this car... I've not modified it and I probably wont. I've just got a new panel filter for it and that's as far as I can go simply because I'm on unmodifiable insurance with a black box for three months. Gutting! Anyway, I'll be attending the Swansea Cruise @ Camarthen Showgrounds this Sunday. If anyone from here is there, let me know. One final note, I think this car is running 180BHP from my estimate, it's currently at 12,000 Miles.

Future Modifications (When I get moolah, I'm only 20 and I'm a student who works part time hours):

Akrapovic Evo Exhaust
Sprintbooster Gen 2 - Purchased a "retard" weighted crank pulley from Raptor to improve mechanical response instead;
V6 Airbox + 63mm Throttle Body - KTR Induction kit fitted as it was easier to find, throttle body is going to remain original as RSTuning posted a dynograph up showing that an enlarged throttle body loses you power.
Schrick Cams

OR

Meggy Engine Conversion.

One final note. This is all over the space of 2 years. All these cars...

Quick update! I've had the car waxed up lovely with Autoglym HD Wax and it looks smooth and has a very nice reflection to it. I've also fitted Alacantara pillars (I don't know if you spell it differently) which brings up the cars 'expensive look' factor quite a bit!

Also replacing gearbox and engine oil. Going to try 75w in the gearbox rather than 75-80.

Nice man.

Good decision getting the renaultsport rather than spending lots on the other clio.

Like the black surrounds on the interior, is that standard with the gordini or did you do them?

The Alacantara pillars? I bought them from Ebay from another Clio lover. £20 in total. Really nice addition to the car! Everyone should have them IMO, they look a million times better and really makes the interior!

Love the blue Gordini. Only thing I'd change are the wheels. White speed lines look amazing but upkeep on them is horrendous. Black speed lines look superb also.

No mate sorry,

I mean the black surrounds to the head unit and the heater blowers and strip above glove box.

Mine are silver.

Funnily enough I was thinking about this a few days ago! They'd go well with the stripes and wing mirrors. I'm not even sure what alloys are on there now. They're definately not original.

Oh! They come standard in the Gordini as far as I know !

Quick update:

New pins have come from @mrpink, got some new Fuchs 2l gearbox oil, Brembo Caliper Seals, pressed number plates and I've gone ahead and debadged the boot lid except for the RS logo in the bottom right which is a nice touch.

The cars having it's service soon which includes new oil and filter, 5,000 miles early. Be safe than sorry.

Also the cars had it's second coat of wax for the winter and is absolutely gleaming. Dirty now though, after a long drive!

Will upload pictures when I can

Just letting everyone know that the service was completed 3 weeks ago!

Gearbox oil was a total nightmare, I felt bad for my mechanic who had the car up on a lift, looks like he was struggling massively to get the oil in the car. Tiny little hole too. We measured it up against the old oil to make sure we got the amount correctly. First impressions were ****, the gearbox was still wank and I didn't see any improvement. However, now, I feel much better shifts when cold. Also, I've been driving with three gears usually such as 1st > 3rd > 5th @ 2,000 RPM. Excellent to drive like that when the car is cold and clunky and is really economical.

Pins... well... were pins. However they did have a much better 'clang' to them when tapped together which indicates it's been made of a far superior metal (I assume). The old ones were fine, but it was a piece of mind for me.

Also, the car engine had an oil change with Carlube Triple R which I can't comment on yet as the engine hasn't blown up so no idea if it's any good or not, reguardless the oil will be changed again in the next 6,000 miles (5,500 to be precise).

I've not gotten around to changing the cabin filter though, but I couldn't care less about that, as long as the major operations of the car has been lubed up!

Funny incident today. I took my AD08r's down to Pauls Tyres in Port Talbot for a change and put the seats down on top of my car cleaning bag and put the tyres on top of it. After changing the tyres and getting home, I lifted the seat up to find 3l of Leather Balm had leaked EVERYWHERE:

10609685_10204203332436248_3911928933555115625_n.jpg

I did what any man would do, rub that stuff in! I really hate wasting money and I don't see a problem with rubbing it all in. I did ALL of the car with PLENTY left over everywhere. The entire leather parts of the car is pure shine so I hope it dries in soon!

Can't comment on the AD08r's at the moment, saving for the backs to be changed to match the fronts. I've currently got Continental Sport Contacts (280) on the back which I'm very aware of due to my previous video that I've put up in the general section!

There were about 3mm of tread left on my Potenzas (Went from being soft to solid rubber) so I gave them to Paul as he changed my fronts for free.

So that's it for now!

I've got H&R Springs to drop it 30mm on order so I'll whip up a picture of that when it's done. It will be going on the FF suspension so won't be a ridiculous drop.

So, an update since October 2014. I headed down to the black mountains run and thoroughly enjoyed. Got along with @dajones very well and is now someone who I speak to occasionally for advice and obviously, cars. Really looking forward to the next one!

Since then, not really much happened, I didn't even clean the car and it was stinking from the mountains for months.

So anyway, last week I took the plunge and bought a KTR Induction Kit for the 200. Absolutely excellent. It's improved throttle response and dare I say - has improved low down torque. Here's what it looks like in the bay, not something you've not seen before obviously.

That's about it.

I've got Raptor's "Retard" crank pulley to put on it but that's just a waiting game as it's sitting in the corner of my room.

Insurance also drops from £1400 to £550 this year so really looking forward to having the extra money!

Nope! Fitting was easy. I'm not even mechanically minded and have never even taken a car battery out before and it all went okay. All I can say though is that throughout the whole install, the battery surround is the silliest thing to remove. It took me ages and a cut hand to not try to buckle it. The way it clips in is also horrendous. However, as for the kit, it was lovely to fit. I broke the part that connects the filter pipe to the aluminum housing as you can see from the picture but KTEC sent me a new one instantly. I've just not put it on yet. The cone also rubs against the wiring which I think is the ECU but it's been on a week now and there's no cone damage; just a little indent from where it's been pressing against it.

As for the noise, holy sh17balls. You WILL notice it instantly. Anything over 50% throttle and it will growl. If you plant it at 1,500 - 2,000 RPM you can literally hear the pistons thumping back and forth. As for daily driving, I don't tend to plant the throttle so can only hear it when going up hills, so yeah, it's great for daily driving and sounds absolutely immense (like your car is on ITB's) when ragging it. I'm getting used to the sound so I don't notice it as much, it just sounds normal to me now. However when you first put it on, you will notice how loud it is. As another example, if you have your radio on vol.20 and hit 7,500RPM, you won't be able to hear the radio. You'll also get plenty of looks. I had a gym friend hear me from the motorway about quarter of a mile away, for an induction kit, that is impressive.
